NICE TO MEET YOU

I'm Shonte Deveaux

              Personal Finance Educator

As a first-generation Bahamian woman living in America, I know exactly what it feels like to have big goals but very few answers when it comes to money.

I still remember being in college as an international student, attending a career fair, and learning about credit cards for the first time. I was shocked that someone was offering me what felt like “free money.” My spidey senses were tingling, so I started digging. What is a credit card? How does credit actually work?

What surprised me most wasn’t just how much I learned — it was realizing that my friends, both American and international students, were just as confused as I was. So I shared what I found. We learned together. I opened my first credit card — a Discover student card I still have today — and my friends opened theirs too using my referral link.

That moment changed everything.

In 2017, I decided to help more people by sharing what I was learning on Instagram. Since then, I’ve shared countless posts and supported hundreds of people through content, resources, coaching, and speaking engagements. I have helped my clients and audience shift their money mindset, budget without restriction, understand and build credit, pay off debt, and start investing — without shame or perfection.

And yes, I practice what I teach.

I’ve worked through my own financial blockers, remain an avid budgeter, paid off $19,000 in debt in 19 months, and invested my first six figures before 30. Life didn’t stop there — after getting married, my partner and I took on debt together, and along the way, I had to confront my own habits around people-pleasing and putting myself last. Today, we’re on track to pay off $40,000 in under two years — together.

Progress isn’t linear, and that’s the point.
